Chapter 2
Sam muttered as she created dossiers on the residents of Bakersfield Estate. Her auburn head nodding at some things and shaking at others. Her green eyes fixed on the screen as she learned all she could about Bakersfield Estate and its occupants.
This is what she lived for, digging up the background and putting the puzzle pieces together. Somewhere in what she was finding would be the key to whomever it was plotting against them.
Who were the heirs? What would the motive be? Love/hate? Money? Something totally different?
Her phone rang and she answered it without looking to see who it was.
“Hey, Sam,” she heard her father’s voice on the other end.
    “What’s up, Chief?” she asked.
“Fingerprints came back,” he answered. “Your perp was wearing gloves. We got smudged prints showing the wrinkle in the glove. Of course, yours were there.”
“Anything on the paper or ink?”
“Ordinary printer paper, you can buy from any office supply store,” he answered. “The ink, however came from one of those gel pens. Black, nothing to make it stand out. Postmark was here in town, so it’s most likely a local. No DNA on the envelope. It was one of those press and seal envelopes.”
“Thanks, Dad,” she told him. “Maybe it is just some joker. I’m going to keep digging into the residents of Bakersfield Estate, maybe someone has a beef with them.”
“Sounds good,” the chief answered. “You want this letter back or do you want me to hold onto it?”
“I’ll get it from you later,” she replied. “Thanks again. Love you, Dad.” She hung up the phone.
She’d been printing out everything she could on the Bakersfield Estate residents and their history. Tonight, she’d start putting together the dossiers and see what she came up with.
